One of the favorite places of both adults and children at the Moscow Dive Show is the island of microscopes "Secrets of the Underwater World", where the test tubes and samples for research are managed by candidate of biological sciences Konstantin Neverov. For young and adult guests of the exhibition, master classes, lectures and quizzes are held on the island, under the guidance of real scientists you can look at tiny sea and river creatures and ask a million questions.
Schedule of lectures at the Moscow Dive Show 2025
- Thursday, 20.02., 16.00
"If the reefs pulsate, it means someone needs it"
Soft coral Xenia, common among the inhabitants of the reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, is famous for the pulsating movements of the corollas of its polyps. But these beautiful, mesmerizing pulsations of the polyp-petals are part of a complex physiological mechanism that allows the coral to provide oxygen for breathing and carbon dioxide for photosynthesis, which is carried out by microscopic zooxanthellae symbionts in the thickness of the coral tissue. During the lecture, you will not only be able to admire the xenia in the aquarium, but also examine these pulsating "flowers" under a microscope.

"Little water bears" - unique creatures that are not afraid of heat and cold"
They are 400 million years older than dinosaurs...
They can go for tens and hundreds of years without water and food...
They are found in the Himalayan mountains and in the depths of the Antarctic ice...
Their resistance to heat, cold and harmful environmental factors is amazing: these creatures can be boiled, frozen in liquid nitrogen and irradiated with doses of radiation 1000 (A THOUSAND!) times greater than a person can withstand.
These unique creatures are miniature cute tardigrades (tardigrades), similar to funny little bears scurrying around in moss thickets.
The lecture will tell you where these small, seemingly defenseless tardigrades get such resistance to unfavorable factors.

"New from the life of myxomycetes: how they tolerate icy water”
Myxomycetes (slime molds) are primitive amoebas, similar to mushrooms, their body is a constantly pulsating and crawling away plasmodium. Despite the fact that most species of myxomycetes are inhabitants of terrestrial biocenoses, several species managed to penetrate into the aquatic environment and become full-fledged inhabitants of the underwater world...
Nikita Borzov, an employee of the Department of Mycology and Algology of the Biology Faculty of Moscow State University, will talk about this group of unique living creatures - the features of their structure, habits and how some of them adapt to the cold.

"Find a tardigrade!"
Tardigrades - these unique creatures, which will be told about the day before, are actually very common in the surrounding nature. Most of all, they love moss growing on the ground, on trees, on stones. There, in a state of suspended animation, they wait out the winter.
Everyone can take part in a fascinating master class - look for tardigrades under a microscope in moss samples, pre-moistened and kept in the dark for two days. The luckiest hunters for revived tardigrades will be awarded prizes!
