Along the Roads of Military Glory is a high-altitude diving expedition by Moscow Dive Show ambassadors Yuri Kashin and Konstantin Izotov.

14 Jul 2024

Multiple Russian and world record holders in high-altitude diving, ambassadors of the international exhibition Moscow Dive Show, members of the Russian Geographical Society, instructors of the National Dive League, owners of the Underwater Research Center "Another Dimension" and the Gomel Diving Center Yuri Kashin and Konstantin Izotov decided to conduct a high-altitude deep-sea expedition "Roads of Military Glory" in August 2024, dedicated to the Year of the Family.

The expedition will be part of the Russian Geographical Society's program "Discovering Russia Again with the Whole Family" and will be timed to coincide with Geographer's Day.

The goal of the expedition was the high-mountain lake Klukhor in the area of ??the Klukhor Pass. These places are shrouded in the military glory of Russian and Soviet troops in the Russian-Turkish and Great Patriotic Wars, which the expedition participants reflected in its name - "Roads of Military Glory".

Konstantin Izotov:  "Traditionally, after our performance in the Heroes of the Depth show at the Moscow Dive Show in the spring of 2024, we thought about the route of our new expedition. Given the great historical significance of the Klukhor Pass and Lake Klukhor (there is an opinion that a downed plane may be at the bottom of the lake) and our interest as high-altitude divers in this unexplored lake (the lake is about 40 meters deep), we decided to set off along the Staro-Sukhumskaya road (border zone) to this mysterious lake in August 2024. The goals and objectives of the expedition include an archaeological study of the waters of Lake Klukhor for artifacts left over from wars; a study of the ecological state of the underwater waters of the lake; setting a number of Russian and world records for high-altitude diving by child and adult divers. Applications for records have been approved by an international agency.
The route will run along the Staro-Sukhumskaya road, the border zone, where 82 years ago, on August 15, 1942, units of the Red Army entered the battle at the Klukhor Pass at an altitude of almost 3,000 meters above sea level with the Nazi invaders.
Our team plans to reach Lake Klukhor, at an altitude of 2,780 meters above sea level, where they will set up a base camp and undergo acclimatization before diving. The approximate duration of stay at the altitude is 4-6 days.
With this expedition, we want to emphasize the continuity of generations of defenders of the fatherland, the education of the younger generation of Russian patriots."
