In 2024, the unique freediving festival "Under the Ice of Baikal" was held for the first time, during which Russian athletes set 4 records in the icy water of the deepest lake in the world:
Maria Olshevskaya made a record dive to the depth of 40 meters under the ice without a wetsuit among women in separate fins;
Marianne Gillespie dived to a record to date for diving in Baikal 40 meters in the discipline of "free immersion on a rope", and Mark Kisurin in the same discipline showed a result of 60 meters, which is a record among men;
Last but not least, Alexey Molchanov could not leave his visit to Baikal unnoticed, and therefore broke his own record of 2021 and dived in a monofin on one breath to a depth of 90 meters.
The current record holder and world champion in freediving, holder of 38 world records (the number of records increases significantly every year, so perhaps by the time you read these lines, there will already be more), president of the Russian Freediving Federation, founder and director of the Natalia Molchanova Freediving School, ambassador of the Moscow Dive Show 2025 Alexey Molchanov will take the stage at Gostiny Dvor to talk about how the first under-ice Baikal festival was held, whether there were any difficulties in preparing for a difficult dive in icy water, how the athlete coped with these difficulties and what he remembers about these unusual under-ice competitions.
Right on stage, Alexey will hold a master class and introduce exhibition guests to tools that help prepare themselves mentally and physically for extreme loads, which we can certainly safely include ice freediving among, and will also talk about what everyone who goes into super-cold water will have to face and what, it would seem, is impossible to prepare for in advance. Nothing is impossible if you are a world record holder. And now you will learn his secrets.
And of course, Alexey Molchanov will talk about the Freediving Federation's immediate plans - holding the Second International Freediving Festival "Under the Ice of Baikal" from March 16 to 21, which this time will include not only deep ice freediving competitions, but also ice diving in length.
